"MacBrightness" is a useful utility that takes away the drudgery of altering the screen brightness of those machines that Apple made without physical brightness knobs (namely the Classic, and the Classic II). Instead of those annoyingly time consuming trips to Apple's Brightness Control Panel, "MacBrightness" puts the brightness slider control at your fingertips (well, under the menu bar, at least!) Pressing the mouse button in the menu bar whilst holding down a user definable combination of the keys Shift, Option, Command & Control, will bring up a slider control for altering the screen brightness. Use the "MacBrightness" control panel to configure the key settings and other options.
MacBrightness is great for University labs where Classics are used by every one or where ambient light levels vary often.
How to use "MacBrightness":
=========================
System Requirements: System 6.0.4 or later.
Drag MacBrightness on to your System Folder (NOT the System Folder window) and it will find it's own way to the correct place. Open the MacBrightness control panel (whichever way you prefer) and set up the options you desire. When you restart your computer "MacBrightness" will load (given that it is turned on at the control panel).
To temporarily turn off MacBrightness either hold down the shift key or the mouse button while the extension is loading.
Version History:
===============
13 December, 1991: Version 1.0ß released. Unfortunately, this was the wrong version and shouldn't have been posted as it contained a serious bug. NEVER use version 1.0ß!
28 December, 1991: Version 1.0.1 released. This fixed the unfortunate and rather embarrassing bug that caused the computer to crash almost every time the slider menu was pulled down! Also I added the info box and balloon help.
7 January, 1992: Version 1.0.2 released. This releases fixes the "bug" which caused the animation sequence and the "info" pages to not work properly when using Stepping Out II/2 etc.. Theoretically, this should also allow them to work on machines with Radius Pivot monitors. (Thanks to Ben Haller for his UseNet posting on this subject.)
